Siddhanth Kapoor On Donating Plasma: ‘I Know What I Have Been Through With Covid And Don’t Want Anyone Else To Go Through That’- EXCLUSIVE
Yesterday, Siddhanth Kapoor took a step forward to help people in this time of need as he donated plasma in a Mumbai hospital. The good deed done by the actor was lauded by many, including his sister Shraddha Kapoor and cousin Priyaank Sharma. As for him, he sums it up in one sentence. “In time of need, we all need to come together.”

Talking behind the inspiration behind this step of his, Siddhanth shares, “I did it with an intention to save and give as much as I could. It was a very satisfying experience. It made me feel really happy that I contributed in some way. Now, I am starting a fundraiser to organise oxygen for people who cannot afford it.” Any complications since the donation? “No, I am just feeling a little tired, but it’s normal and all fine.”

Plasma donation is emerging as a necessary step in Covid recovery during this second wave of Covid-19 cases in India. But some people are still scared and sceptical about it. For them, Siddhanth has this to say, “I definitely feel that someone who has recovered from Covid and is eligible to donate plasma, should take that step and go ahead. It is a very necessary step at this moment and can save a lot of lives. It is not even a painful experience. They just put a needle in you for 30 minutes, your blood just goes and get converted into plasma and comes back to you. It is a very harmless procedure and people should do it.” He adds that even the hospitals are maintaining utmost safety for these donors. “The donation wing is a separate space or a separate building altogether. They are taking all necessary precautions and arrangements for donors’ safety.”

Siddhanth caught the virus in December last year. Talking about his experience of going through that ordeal, he shares, “I was quarantined in Goa when I caught the virus. I lost my sense of smell and taste, got very weak and lost a lot of weight. I couldn’t eat too much and only recently I started getting back. So, recovery is a long procedure.” The actor insists that it’s this experience of his that is motivating him. “I want to come out and help as much as I can because I know what I have been through and don’t want anyone else to go through that. I want everyone to go and get vaccinated as well because even if you get Covid after vaccination, it doesn’t hit you as hard. You might not need to go to the hospital as much.”

Ask Siddhanth how is he coping up with the second wave of Covid, and he says he was prepared for it mentally. “I knew that there was another wave in the coming because there were multiple strains of the virus already mutated. So, I was mentally prepared for it but it was all in the mind. I have just been trying to keep my immunity intact and I am being patient for vaccination. If 65-70 per cent of the population gets vaccinated, then only things would start to get better,” he asserts.

During the last one year, Siddhanth spent a lot of time with his family due to the lockdown and the family even had a wedding celebration with his cousin Priyaank getting hitched. “I always had been close to my family and the wedding was a nice and refreshing change for all of us. Our family has always been there for each other, not just in the immediate but extended family as well. The lockdown just brought us closer and we even found out a lot of new things about each other,” he laughs, adding that it made them a stronger unit. “It just made us stronger in the head, as with family, we are ready to face anything. We just need to put money, politics, religion or borders aside and come together for the betterment of humanity. We need to be kind and be there for each other, and lend a helping hand as all these things really matter,” he concludes.
